Much of the work revolves around Children in Care, Young people in supported housing, Foster Carers, Care Leavers, family support, SEN/Learning disabilities.

You could be working in a variety of placements, have longer term assignments or a new full-time role. We would love to talk to anyone who has experience of working in this sector, qualifications required will depend on what is needed for each role.

Bank Staff for residential children's homes and supported housing

We are looking for people with experience in working with Children and Young people or have transferable skills for our clients who run residential childcare settings and supported housing for young people.

The majority of our work is based in Poole, Ferndown, Dorchester and Weymouth.

There are various shifts always available so we are looking for reliable staff who are looking for some extra work - we can offer fulltime hours across projects or hours to suit your commitments. Building relationships is key when working with look after children or care leavers so ideally you will do much of your work within the same project where possible.

Residential Childcare Worker- Poole £27,509 pa

You will be required to work 39 hours per week. 91 Sleep-ins per year.

The Role

  • Establish positive relationships with young people which young people perceive to be positive, warm, and rewarding, always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
  • Providing support for young people in their education and extracurricular activities, this may include supporting them in the classroom if necessary.
  • Ensure that each young person’s care plan is followed and amended as appropriate to reflect their changing needs and aspirations.
  • Maintain accurate records daily, to a high standard. Complete all relevant paperwork paying detailed attention to risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
  • Liaise with other appropriate services, acting as advocate and support for individuals to ensure they receive appropriate support services.
  • Ensure the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people are being met and the Health Plan is being followed.
  • To report and respond to emergency situations in line with policy and procedures, emergency services, reporting missing children and following PAN Dorset safeguarding procedures.
  • Work with children/young people who may be emotionally or physically demanding with the potential for verbal or physical abuse by helping them to gain self-control by adopting de-escalation techniques, challenging any unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable and positive social conduct.
  • Attend professional/Multi Agency meetings as required.
  • Be willing to listen to complaints from children and young people or families, learn from complaints and use them to improve the service.
  • Facilitate and supervise contact sessions between children and young people and their families within the agreement and processes of the care planning agenda.
  • Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties.
  • Actively contributing to the development of the team.
  • Attend training when nominated and complete all mandatory training.
  • Supporting and facilitating the work of the Regulation 44 visitor during their monthly visits and any inspection by the regulator.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (to have or be committed to work towards and achieve)

This post requires the holder to do varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work. The post holder is also required to work weekends as part of a rolling rota and Bank Holidays when required.

On occasions you may be requested to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract, to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.

There may also be occasions where you will be lone working.

Supervised contact workers - Bank

Lily staffing work closely with local authorities to support supervised contact for looked after children with their families/carer's. This can involve picking up children from placements and taking to either contact centres or to meetings in the community. As a contact worker you will be expected to supervise the contact to ensure all of the instructions are followed and to submit a report about the contact.

Ideally you will have some experience of working with children and have an understanding of the issues faced by looked after children. The age group is generally 0-16 and often includes siblings.

You will need your own transport that is suitable for transporting others with the correct insurances.

Hourly rate is between £14.24 and £20.50 dependent on times/days, travel time is paid by the hourly rate and mileage is paid at .45p per mile.

Using your experience of working with vulnerable children and/or those with multiple and complex needs, you will work closely with the children living in Lily Residential homes.

Your role will include

Being responsible for effective day to day running of the residential home in the absence of the homes’ manager; to be responsible for a team of staff, the allocation of work tasks, as well as undertaking direct work with children in the home when necessary. To be responsible for all aspects of the residential premises, including maintenance and health and safety.

  • Supporting the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with the company Policy and Procedures and meeting all OFSTED regulations.
  • Deputise/ act up for the Registered Manager in their absence
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare and development of the young people.
  • Ensuring that the children & young people’s needs are recognised and met where possible. This includes ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the homes and to challenge discrimination from outside of the homes.
  • Developing and maintain good working relationships with parents/carers, social workers, schools and other professionals involved with the welfare of the children & young people.
  • Planning , managing and leading shifts ensuring children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day

Staff management

  • Ensure that all staff under their supervision undertake and complete training in accordance with their induction training schedule and Personal Development Plan.
  • Ensure that all staff are familiar with Policies and Guidance Notes with regard to the care of children, as well as subsequent guidance (copies available in the homes office in electronic and paper form).
  • Establish that all staff have written up any incident / accident forms or restraint forms as applicable and that such information is passed to the Registered Manager within the agreed timescale.
  • Ensure that all staff are familiar with and follow Local Authority Child Missing Person Protocol and follow Lily Residential Missing Person Procedure.
  • Monitor and ensure that all staff are competent and use the Company’s case recording system.

Skills, qualifications and attributes

  • Hold an NVQ 3 in residential childcare
  • Have solid experience in a senior role within a residential childcare setting
  • Be willing to progress towards a level 5
  • Good communication and IT skills
  • Experience in managing teams and staff rotas
  • Knowledge of Ofsted regulations
  • Keenness to learn and progress

You will be working a minimum of 39 hours on a shift pattern agreed with the Registered Service Manager. The role will include office based days, shifts in the home and 1 in 4 weekends.

You will also be expected to be part of a 4 weekly rota with Registered Managers, Deputies and Senior RCW be available for Manager on calls. This will be in line with the 1 in 4 weekends on shift.

What you’ll be doing:

Supporting our senior management team in their day-to-day work by helping with projects, liaising with internal and external colleagues, fact finding, networking, and ensuring they have what they need to run the company efficiently and successfully.

  • Diary management – review meeting invites, request agendas, resolve conflicts and priorities
  • Meeting management – arranging meetings, booking rooms, set up rooms, minute-taking if requested
